Lubbock Power and Light sent a great article in the mail to all lubbock customers that brings to light not throwing your grease down the drain.
“Save your Drains – Can the Grease”
“Pouring fats, oils and grease (FOG) down the drain clogs plumbing and can cause sewage to overflow into your home or neighborhood.
Sewage overflows are hazardous to public health and the environment. Clean up and repairs can be costly. FOG comes from food like cooking oils, meat dripping, butter, sauces, gravy, dairy products, and even salad dressing.
So follow 3 simple steps and prevent costly sewage overflows in the future.
SCRAPE IT
Dishes and pots coated with greasy leftovers should be wiped or scraped clean prior to washing or placing in the dishwasher.
BAG IT
Place fat trimmings from meat in a plastic bag and discard them with your trash rather than dumbing down the garbage disposal.
CAN IT
NEVER pour grease down the drain! Instead, place cooled grease and oils in a sealed container and dispose of it with your garbage.”
Thanks Lubbock Power in Light for a great article that could help people save their drains!
